Classic Homemade White Bread Recipe
Ingredients (makes 2 loaves):
2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)

2¼ cups warm water (around 110°F / 43°C)

2 tbsp granulated sugar

1 tbsp salt

2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

6 cups all-purpose flour (or bread flour)

Optional: a little melted butter for brushing the tops

Instructions:
Activate the Yeast:

In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast.

Let sit for 5–10 minutes until bubbly and foamy.

Mix the Dough:

Add salt, softened butter, and 3 cups of flour. Mix until combined.

Gradually add the remaining flour, one cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.

Knead:

Knead by hand or with a dough hook for 8–10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

First Rise:

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1–1½ hours).

Shape the Loaves:

Punch down the dough and divide it into 2 equal parts.

Shape each into a loaf and place into two greased 9×5-inch loaf pans.
