Country Fried Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Gravy

Ingredients

For the  Steak:

  • 4 beef cube  steaks (about 4–6 oz each)

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon  black pepper

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 cup buttermilk

  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Mashed Potatoes:

  • 2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • 1/2 cup warm milk (more if needed)

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Gravy:

  • 4 tablespoons pan drippings (or butter if needed)

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk

  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
