Secret Talks with UNESCO?
Rumor has it that Buuren is even in talks with UNESCO to have the planned center recognized as a model project for “Sport and Sustainable Development.” If successful, this would bring international attention to the city – an unprecedented step for a municipality with almost 40,000 residents.
Population celebrates – spontaneous parade planned
Shortly after the announcement, hundreds of people gathered in front of the town hall. Students, sports clubs, and music groups announced a spontaneous parade through the city center. Children carried tennis rackets and signs reading: “Thank you Steffi!”
