Boil potatoes in salted water until tender (15–20 min).
Drain, then mash with butter and milk.
Add salt and pepper to taste.

Simple Brown Gravy:
2 tbsp oil or butter
2 tbsp flour
2 cups beef broth
Salt, pepper, optional garlic/onion powder
In a pan, melt butter or oil.
Add flour and stir for 2–3 minutes until golden.
Slowly whisk in broth, stir until smooth and thickened.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
