Instructions:
Preheat oven and prepare baking pan: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
Fold puff pastry: Take two sheets of puff pastry at a time and fold them like an accordion. Place the folded dough in the prepared baking pan. Repeat until all the puff pastry has been used. Loosen the folds to ensure even spacing.
First Bake: Bake the folded dough for 10 minutes.
Add Melted Butter: Remove the dough from the oven and drizzle the melted butter evenly over the top. Return it to the oven and bake for another 10 minutes.
Make the Custard: While the buttered dough is baking, whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract, and cardamom in a medium bowl (preferably with a pouring spout).
Pour the Custard over the Dough: Remove the baked dough from the oven and pour the custard evenly over the top.
Second Bake: Bake for another 30–35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
Make the Syrup: During the last baking time, prepare the syrup. Place the sugar and water in a small saucepan and heat over medium heat. Whisk frequently and simmer until the mixture thickens slightly, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
Drizzle syrup: Drizzle warm syrup evenly over baked cake.
Cool and serve: Allow cake to cool completely before slicing and serving.
