Season the Steak:
Rub both sides with olive oil, then season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
Heat the Pan:
Use a cast-iron skillet or heavy pan. Heat on high until smoking hot.
Sear the Steak:
Place the steak in the pan and do not move it for 2-3 minutes (for a nice crust).
Flip and cook the other side for 2-3 more minutes.
Add Butter & Aromatics (Optional):
Reduce heat to medium-low, add butter, garlic, and rosemary/thyme.
Spoon the melted butter over the steak for 30-60 seconds to enhance flavor.
Check Doneness:
Rare: 120°F (49°C) (cool red center, ~5 min total)
Medium-Rare: 130°F (54°C) (warm red center, ~6-7 min total)
Medium: 140°F (60°C) (pink center, ~8-9 min total)
Well-Done: 160°F (71°C) (fully cooked, ~10-12 min total)
Rest & Serve:
Remove from heat, let the steak rest for 5 minutes before slicing to keep the juices inside.
